What we do

Stonefly Lodge is a 5 star lodge situated on 150 acres of private forest only 50 minutes drive from the South Island city of Nelson, close to many fly fishing rivers in Nelson Lakes National Park, Motueka and Murchison.

Being within 50 minutes of the Abel Tasman National Park our luxury accommodation lodge is well positioned for exploring the park which is renowned for its golden beaches, sculptured granite cliffs, and world-famous Abel Tasman Coast Track.
 
We provide private luxury lodge accommodation located above the Motueka River, expert guided fly fishing from the top Nelson fly fishing guides.
 
Stonefly Lodge has been recognised as one of the finer Fly Fishing Lodges in New Zealand.


Accommodation

Luxury accommodation is provided up stairs with 4 guest rooms all with spectacular views from private balconies overlooking the Motueka River and beyond to the Mt Arthur Range in Kahurangi National Park.

Fine linen sheets, top quality duvets, hand crafted furniture, local New Zealand art, all add to the ambiance of the spectacular wilderness setting.

All rooms are equipped with private ensuites, writing desk, luggage storage, hairdryer, heated towel rails, and bath robes.

There are two guest rooms in each of the two wings of the building enabling the rooms to be quite remote from the main activities area on the ground floor.

All guest rooms, and the entire lodge, has wireless connection and the lodge offers an i-pad for use in the guest rooms for in-house entertainment if required.

Breakfast can be served on the guest room private balconies if required.

Each room has a super king bed that can split to two singles, allowing the lodge to accommodate 4 couples or 8 singles at a time.

Relax after an enjoyable day exploring one of the National Parks and indulge in a private massage in your room by one of our local massage therapists / beauticians.


How to Find us

Access by road to Stonefly Lodge luxury accommodation from Nelson is only a 50 minute drive through the scenic Moutere Hills, home to many vineyards, orchards and country farms.

We can arrange to meet you at the Nelson airport and transfer you to the Lodge.

The location of Stonefly Lodge allows our guests to use the Lodge as a base to explore a wide diversity of fly fishing waters in the region and the opportunity to experience some of the region's major National Parks (Abel Tasman, Kahurangi, and Nelson Lakes) complete with their attractions.

The property is 2.5km from the main sealed road with access via a riverside track to a secluded valley setting offering complete privacy for our guests. Stonefly Lodge is in an ideal location for private functions, a corporate retreat or weekend getaway. 

  • Driving time from Nelson is approximately 50minutes.
  • Driving time from Christchurch on the East Coast is approximately 4.5 hours
  • Driving time from Greymouth on the West Coast is approximately 3.5 hours
  • Driving time from Picton on the North coast is approximately 3 hours.
     

The Helicopter transfers from Nelson Airport to the helipad at Stonefly Lodge takes only 15 minutes and offers spectacular views of the Tasman Bay coastline, Abel Tasman National Park and the ranges surrounding the Nelson Lakes region.
